Polymorphic: Beta Incoming
Published by on Friday, July 24, 2009

This week, while Taeo was off sunbathing in paradise, I got TaeoUI 2.0 into shape for its transition to beta. As of today, the main config utility and both accompanying add-ons (skins and dynamic profiles) are fully coded, commented, and awaiting one last run through before their initial release. When Taeo makes his return next week, we’ll setup a bug forum and a download page for those adventurous enough to be initial testers (back up your addons and WTF files!). Once we get all of the bugs ironed out, we’ll be ready for the first official release of TaeoUI 2.0!

In other news, we recently got another email from Shelbi Roach containing a whole set of fresh TaeoUI skins. Some of you may remember her Paladin themed set from a couple of weeks ago. Well here’s a first look at her five newest creations.

Needless to say, we’re thrilled with her work, and we hope that you guys are too.

That’s it for Polymorphic this week, we’ll see you in the Beta!

  1. Very nice, I love the 3rd one down, my main is an 80 afflic warlock, it will look great when finished. Thank you for your efforts as the gaming community knows most modders/addon creators do this type of thing for free and in their spare time; so thank you for sharing. :)

  2. Nice! I especially like the first one, even though the paladin is still my favorite. Also, I can’t wait to beta it ;)

  3. Oh i’m dying to see 2.0! Hope it comes for 1680×1050

    I love your UI

  4. rah, I’m checking each day to see if it is out yet :p

  5. haha, I’m doing the exact same thing Ghil!

  6. Awesome, Can’t wait to test this.

  7. Yeah, agree with you all. Hopefully we won’t have to wait much longer.

  8. Not much longer! We’re currently prepping some changes to the website to accommodate the surge of users we expect for the beta test of 2.0. Namely we want to have a forum in place for bug reporting.

  9. gasp! Well, i can tell it will be worth the wait. So do all the prep that needs to be done, either way I’ll be first in line to test it out ;)

  10. Oh I can`t wait! I’m so excited!

  11. so this will only be available to download next weekend? :(

  12. Wivel, please don’t curse us, I hope it’ll be sooner than that :p

  13. I hope too, don’t get me wrong! :p

  14. Are there going to be any improvements to the amount of memory this addon(s) use and make it viable for raiding with a avg or a little above avg computuer?

  15. I’m going to try to have it up by this weekend but I can’t promise anything! Poly and I have our hands full with a 10 man Uld raid going for Yogg +1 this week! And Poly goes on vacation this weekend! Yikes. I’ll try tho!

@Trine Taeo UI v2 uses relatively low amounts of memory. In the neighborhood of 10-15mb. We’ve ditched a few older addons in favor of more recent and efficient ones so there is a definite improvement over v1. In some of the screenshots of v1 you’ll notice memory usage being reported at over 50mb. This is due solely to Recount which is not being included by default with Taeo UI v2.

I use a variation of Taeo UI while raiding 25 man Uld. I run an above average system - Athlon 6000+, 4 gigs memory, GeForce GTX 280. I’m able to maintain a framerate of 30+ during nearly all encounters while running high quality at 1920×1080 resolution.

  16. I’ll hope it comes out this weekend. I’m more excited about TaeoUI 3.2 than with 3.2 itself.

  17. I’m dying for 2.0, please hurry :) (sorry addicted to good uis)

  18. Taeo,

I found your site through the “Reader UI of the Week” column over on WoW.com.

The work that you and Polymorphic have done here is incredible. I can’t wait to start using your UI template.

With that said, I do have one question: What are the odds of seeing support for a resolution (widescreen) of 1680×1050?

  19. @badger Thanks for the compliments. As for your question, yes Taeo UI 2.0 will support 1680×1050.

We’ve been getting this question alot - I’m tempted to make an FAQ blog post about it!

The intention of Taeo UI 2.0 is that it will work for nearly every resolution - without resorting to separate downloads. The Taeo UI addon performs lots of complex math to determine the correct placement and scale for all of the elements in the UI for your chosen screen resolution to match the original design.

  20. Aaaah … I should have read Poly’s original post first. If you’re transitioning from a Compilation into a single Addon, naturally, that would make it more adaptable to screen size changes - just like you said.

Well, that’s awesome. Keep up the good work!

  21. @badger It is still a compilation. However Poly has written a set of custom AddOns that interact with and configure the existing AddOns in our compilation. Much of this configuration is done automatically without any tweaking needed by the user.

  22. Really looking forward to this!

I downloaded the out-of-the-box taeo about two or three weeks ago and tweaked the hell out of it to suit my purposes (I’m so sorry, I just can’t live without autobar and baggins and opie).

I’ve been using it for raiding, it’s fantastic. Has bugs, but nothing that would make me uninstall it.

I really like the fact that you paid attention to pet frames. In fact, the implementation as well of unit frames for focus, target, and target of target, combined with the classtimers and casting bars, is overall extremely clean and presents critical information in a way that is easy to parse visually.

The only weakness is, I believe, personal debuffs, which are buried by default among the Elkano’s buffs off to the side. It’s fairly trivial to pull the debuffs into a separate anchor and put them anywhere you want. Obviously DBM will notify you about the most important debuffs for most fights, but it still strikes me as inelegant in the current implementation.

Thanks so much for making such a great ui!

  23. I’m so excited for it! I really hope everything goes right and you manage to release it this weekend.
